SPECIAL INTEREST VEHICLE

Special Interest Vehicle Registration (Club Rego)

Members of BMW Club Qld can apply to register vehicles (that were manufactured more than 30 years ago) under the Queensland Government’s Special Interest Vehicle Concession Scheme.

The first step to register your classic car as a Special Interest Vehicle is to supply the club (email membership@bmwcq.com.au) with the following details:

  • Make & model of vehicle
  • Year of manufacture
  • Registration number (or previous one, if known)
  • VIN or chassis number
  • No of cylinders & engine capacity
  • No of seats (as Registered)
  • Vehicle colour (preferably the manufacturer’s colour name)

Then we can issue you with evidence of your membership and vehicle details on our club letterhead and signed by the membership officer. (As described in Special Interest Vehicle Concession Scheme guide).

You must maintain your BMWCQ membership (or another car club's membership) to keep your SIV registration status.

If your vehicle was already SIVS registered prior to joining the BMW Club Qld, it can be used to attend Club Events - including impromptu events as detailed below.

Once you have registered the event, it is important that you carry evidence of the impromptu event. This can be via any of these methods:

The BMWCQ will maintain a register of endorsed impromptu events on its website where all relevant information on the impromptu event will be displayed. It is important that your names are visible on this register to meet regulation requirements. The list of event entrants will only be visible to members who have logged into the website.

Valid event examples:

  2. Testing a vehicle in conjunction with mechanical repairs (both before and after the repairs),
  3. Driving the vehicle to/from a repair shop, or other service, necessary to keep the vehicle operational, &
  4. To drive the vehicle a reasonable distance to a destination in order to keep all components operational.
